Do you have a legal ethics question?

Are you a member of the American Bar Association?

Your legal ethics question might be answered by using a resource of the ABA. The American Bar Association has available to you its ETHICSearch.

In some instances, ETHICSearch can be a sufficient resource for your practice needs. ETHICSearch provides a fast and economical way to find relevant ABA rules and opinions to answer your ethics question. ETHICSearch is part of the ABA Center for Professional Responsibility, which is staffed with lawyers experienced in legal ethics research. They will give you citations and quotes from relevant ABA rules, opinions, and sometimes other ethics resources. Typically there is no charge for the initial consultation and research (there may be a negotiated charge if you ask for more research than they normally provide.

So the proven tip is this. For solo practitioners and small law firm lawyers who need ethics guidance: use ETHICSearch. (You might be able to avoid having to hire an ethics expert for a paid opinion.) For those just starting out in their career and not wanting to ask a senior partner for fear of seeming naive: use ETHICSearch.  For mid to large size law firms which want a fast start for their internal ethics lawyer to untangle an internal ethics problem: use ETHICSearch.
